Kids of all ages filtered into the Community Center on Valentine’s Day to join the activities the Recreation Department planned as part of a Heart Day special event. Basketball games, relays, a Heart Hunt, arts and crafts, cookie decorating, and photo opt moments were all part of the fun. Prizes were given throughout the afternoon and plenty of smiles were to be found. Ximere was the winner of the ‘Guess the # of Candies’ contest. She guessed 326 pieces of candy only 2 off of the actual 328!
Join us in March for our next celebration! Details to come on our St. Patty’s Day Fun.
Berta was named Romantic Willimantic’s 2024 Cupid for her positive impact she has made in the lives of others since she moved to Willimantic in 1990. As part of tradition, Berta was brought to the Cupid Ceremony having no idea she was the one to be honored. She thought she would be assisting those at the Senior Center with an event. When Mayor Tom DeVivo announced Berta’s name, she was so surprised it took her a moment or two to realize she had indeed been crowned the 2024 Cupid.
Berta was named the 2024 Cupid for her genuine care about others and how she makes everyone in the community feel welcome as a part of her extended Willimantic family. Berta and her husband, Lupe, drive their iconic ice cream truck through the streets of Willimantic and serve scoops of sweet Italian Ice and delicious one-of-a-kind ice cream flavors. After summer break, Berta returns to Windham High School where she’s been serving the school district as a paraprofessional since 2000, helping students learn life skills, gain confidence, graduate and start careers. Thank you, Berta, for all you give to the community!
