Zoning Enforcement

The Zoning Enforcement Officer is responsible for zoning compliance. These functions help to ensure and facilitate high quality and orderly development, the protection of property values, and the protection of the public health and general welfare of the community.

The Zoning Enforcement Officer reviews and approves all documents related to development of lands within the Town. Anyone constructing, demolishing, adding, or otherwise structurally modifying any building must first obtain appropriate permits from the Zoning Office. Building inspectors will then review all construction work to make sure it complies with applicable building codes.

The Zoning Office provides the following:

  • Assistance and information on applications for zoning permits
  • Investigates complaints of violation of zoning regulations and inland wetlands regulations
  • Processes petitions for variances, rezonings, special uses, and street or alley closures
  • Reviews and approves all documents related to development of lands within the Town
  • Enforces code related to such items as weeds, litter, inoperative vehicles, and commercial vehicles in residential areas
